The Wedding Ring
So, I was getting ready to go fishing. And I was taking way too long, futzing with my gear back in the truck. I couldn't find something, of which I knew I packed, but had just discovered that it didn't make its way to the boat.
Finally, I found it, and ran back to the dock, only to find that the boat was already departing. Now I was stuck until the rest of my gear (hopefully) came back with my keys in it. That wouldn't be until tomorrow.
I decided that the best thing to do was find a room at a hotel and spend the day exploring what I could. First order of business, though, was breakfast, as I'd skipped it in order to make it in time. I went down to a park and broke into some food I still had with me.
While eating and talking to other people at the park table, I heard an eagle screech. Turning to look, I saw two huge bears exit the woods, followed by a number of hunters with rifles. One hunter aimed and shot the closest bear. His companion ran ahead to keep up with the bear, not noticing the other hunter already drawing a bead on the second bear. The muzzle flashed on the second rifle, and the running hunter went down.
Chaos ensued at the park from which I was watching, drawing a crowd of fisherman and tourists alike, watching in horror. The bear was lost to the other side of the forest while the other hunters went to the man lying face down in Carhartt coveralls. The hunter who pulled the trigger stood in shock, but then realized that we all were watching from the park.
Heard yelled from the scene in the distance, "It was my wedding ring. The ring got in the way, made the gun fire."
Woke up, terrified, to my alarm. 9:00AM, Sunday.
