Retrospection

Most people take on projects. They take them on to, say, perform upkeep, maintain something, or perhaps adding something new and improved to their daily lives.

These last two weekends I've been busy, but I'm not sure if I should call what I've been doing a project. A project is a leaky faucet, a squeaking hinge, a temperamental toilet. Something that most definitely improves upon daily life. Instead, I have been compiling, through both automatic and manual data entry, the entirety of my correspondence via instant messaging since June, 2003.

I have only just tonight compiled everything I have. And now I'm not entirely sure what to do with it. I can perform lots of fun calculations (I estimate I've spent about 1357.44 hours among about 4000 conversations, consisting of approximately 207,000 messages passed between myself and others chatting since 2003). Well and good, but other than to show that I spend a lot of time at a computer (which is already pretty apparent), much of what's interesting is in the messages themselves. Through them I can practically reconstruct whatever was going on in my life (provided I talked about it over IM).

This is probably one of the stranger projects I've endeavored to complete, particularly being that though I spent a considerable amount of time putting it together, I have it hidden and password protected, considering the nature of the information.

Being that I've only just finished coding the things, I'll have to update at a later time what kinds of fun things I find. But for now, just letting readers know I'm still alive/programming.
